Tute 1 - Digital and Critical Literacy Video
This video shows an interesting (although cheeky) way to teach students how to critically analyse resources they find on the internet.
Week 1 - Website Review of Toondoo
Toondoo is a site where students can create and share comics. It encourages visual literacy and allows students to use comics to interact with other students online and to share their creations with their peers by embedding them into their own blogs. Users register with Toondoo and will need to read the terms and conditions, which I think is great because students are encouraged to be responsible for the comics they create and share, making sure that they are appropriate and follow the guidelines stated in the site's terms and conditions.
Tute 1 - Brief definition of "new literacies"
"New literacies" are skills involved in using various resources such as podcasts, blogs, wikis, online forums and other multimedia sources available on the world wide web. New literacies emphasise the shift from the showcasing of individual skills and constructing of knowledge to the sharing of information so that there is a collective building of knowledge. New literacies are more easily accessible to the public, so the knowledge formed is a culmination of many minds working collaboratively.
